Position Overview

William Paterson University invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track, 10‑month position of Assistant Professor of Special Education / Teacher of Students with Disabilities in the College of Education, Department of Special Education, Professional Counseling and Disability Studies. The position begins January 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach 24 annual teaching credits in undergraduate and graduate courses, delivered in in‑person, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Provide consistent advisement, support, and guidance to students in their academic endeavors.
  • Coordinate program and course updates with department faculty to align with New Jersey Department of Education and accreditation guidelines.
  • Attend department and college meetings and support student recruitment, retention, and graduation activities.
  • Participate in assurance of learning assessment and accreditation activities, as well as curriculum and program development.
  • Serve on department, College of Education, and university committees and councils.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and academic scholarship; disseminate research findings through publications, presentations, and grant activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Special Education or a related field (ABD considered).
  • Terminal degree must be completed before reappointment for the second year (March).
  • Standard certification as a New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped (or eligibility for standard NJ certification).
  • Experience as a lead teacher in a special education classroom.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate‑level courses on a variety of special education topics.
  • Demonstrated ongoing research agenda focused on special education topics.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting student success; collaborative, engaged, and positive team member.
  • Commitment to excellence in practice and self‑assessment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in New Jersey public schools.
  • Experience supervising novice educators.
  • Experience with asynchronous online and hybrid teaching formats.
  • Experience as a leader, mentor, or professional development provider in special education.
  • Publications on key special education topics.
Salary & Benefits

Salary Grade 24: $73,899.90 - $. The position may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance and retirement plans.
