Position

Adjunct Faculty within the College Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Department of Music.

Responsibilities
  • Use the course outline to develop syllabi, deploy course content, objectives, and assessment methods for up to six credits per semester in an undergraduate course.
  • Contribute to student success by providing consistent support and guidance through role modeling, mentoring, and availability for student questions and needs.
  • Teach in person and/or online depending on course schedules and department needs.
Qualifications – Undergraduate Courses
  • M.A. or M.M. in a music discipline.
  • Five or more years of experience as a professional musician.
  • Full‑time or part‑time employment or active professional practice.
  • Ability to teach online.
  • Preferred:
    Experience teaching music at the collegiate level; expertise with the technical aspects of the applicant’s instrument; professional activity within discipline; experience teaching both online and in person.
Qualifications – Graduate Courses
  • M.A. or M.M. in a music discipline.
  • Ten or more years of experience in music performance, music education, or music business management.
  • Full‑time or part‑time employment or active professional practice.
  • Ability to teach online.
  • Preferred: D.M.A. or Ph.D.; published peer or non‑peer reviewed articles, conference papers, blogs, or books; professional recordings; history of nationally or internationally recognized performance.

  • Ability to translate experience into pedagogical approaches that enhance curriculum relevance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development, teaching excellence, assessment strategies, and positive outcomes.
  • Patience and resourcefulness in managing student challenges.
  • Effective in addressing competing needs by developing and sustaining robust working relationships in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to set and work toward common goals in a collaborative environment.
Compensation

Adjuncts per credit rate:
New employees – $2,100 per credit;
Employees with 13+ semesters at WP – $2,175 per credit.

May be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental insurance, and retirement plans.
