Reports to:
Principals of assigned schools. Director of Secondary Education when acting on curriculum and instruction matters delegated by the Director.
Job Goal
To assist the Principal and Director in providing curriculum and instruction leadership. To assist the Principal in providing school-wide leadership.
Performance Responsibilities
Works directly with the Principal, teachers, parents and students on all matters of school conduct and discipline through implementation of the Board of Education approved disciplinary policies, regulations, and procedures.Keeps appropriate records of student interviews regarding discipline problems and presents an incident report to the Principal when requested.Initiates correspondence to the home regarding discipline matters and maintains a file of such correspondence.Notifies parents of any major discipline case by means of a telephone conversation, a letter, a meeting, electronic correspondence or any combination thereof.Recommends suspension of a child from school to the Principal when this action is deemed necessary and reports suspensions to the Central Office utilizing the Violence and Vandalism Report where required.Reviews attendance (absences and tardies) and works with the nurse, and/or guidance counselors with respect to attendance problems including truancy. (and implements appropriate Board of Education Policy.)Works with the county probation office, the Division of Youth and Family Services, the school SRO's or any other police or governmental agency as the need arises.Observes and supervises staff as directed by the Principal and/or Director. Holds pre and post-observation conferences to discuss the written report as required by the TEACHNJ.Assists principal with formulating summative evaluations and in making recommendations for renewal and non-renewal of contracts and withholding of salary increments for staff members.Guides staff members with the development of lesson plans, the implementation of curriculum and the selection/ordering of instructional resources to meet the needs of students and the improvement of instruction.Assists the Principal in curriculum and staff development as needed.Oversees, evaluates and supports their assigned content areas of supervision.Advises the custodial staff on school maintenance and general appearances of the school.Assumes responsibility for the Master Schedule including room and duty assignments.Orients and supervises daily substitute and permanent substitute teachers, aides, and office personnel, as assigned. Arranges for internal class coverage as needed.Works with the building principal to schedule special programs including but not limited to assemblies, student elections, bus evacuation drills, building evacuation drills, and fire drills.Participates in budget preparation as directed by the Principal.Supervises the delivery, storage, distribution, and inventory of general supplies.Administers student locker assignment, adjustment and corrections as needed.Administers automobile parking including assignment of parking spaces as well as the authorization and revocation of student parking permits.Supervises outside areas and school buses especially during arrival, departure and lunch times, when possible.Assists teachers to supervise hallways and common areas during class changes.Supports the school HIB specialist in the investigation of Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying, as assigned by the Principal.On the Middle School level, supervises the cafeteria/playground supervisors.Acts in place of the Principal in the Principal's absence from the building or as directed by the Principal at community or evening events wherein the Principal is to be represented.Supports the Principal in the implementation of district goals.Assists in staff interviews as directed by the Principal.Performs such other duties as are assigned by the Principal, or Director.Terms of Employment

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on the evaluation of certificated staff.
