Assistant Stylist

Overview

The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults on their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. The role is temporary and prepares talent for a future stylist position, focusing on performance, people, and process during the first six months.

• Deliver exceptional guest service and support the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
• Support mentor Stylist in meeting or exceeding sales and productivity goals for hair services and haircare products by executing add‑on recommendations, shampoo and treatment processes, blowouts, styling, color applications, foiling, sanitation, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations.
• After month three, perform hair services including haircuts, color, texture treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
• Support the execution of in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

• Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
• Serve all guests, including walk‑in guests, in a timely and efficient manner under the mentorship of another stylist.
• Partner with skin therapists and the retail team for a total‑store guest experience.
• Develop professional relationships with peer and brand partners to deliver exceptional service.
• Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.

• Know Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures consistent with state board guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols for a consistent guest experience.
• Use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and event attendance.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain outstanding store operational standards for salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any assigned area.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets by following loss prevention practices and providing exceptional service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

• Cosmetology license.

• Basic understanding of salon techniques such as haircutting, coloring, lightening, styling, texture, and treatment, including extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals needed to perform technical work.
• Basic ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair‑care and makeup products.
• Developed communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.

• Work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Frequent mobility during shift.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects.
• Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office and cosmetology supplies.

The pay range for this position is $15.92 – $19.00 per hour. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay and tips. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits. Part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
