Mechanical Inspector
PGS Worldwide is seeking a Mechanical Inspector for a one year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. The position performs detailed mechanical inspections of complex parts, subassemblies, and assemblies using precision measurement tools and instrumentation. The role requires strong knowledge of trigonometry and geometry, along with mechanical inspection or related machining experience.
Required Skills
- High School or Trade School education
- Minimum of four (4) years of mechanical inspection or related machining experience
- Proficiency in trigonometry and geometry
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, process sheets, engineering change orders, and written and verbal instructions
- Experience inspecting mechanically complex parts, subassemblies, and assemblies against required quality standards
- Ability to use precision tools and special-purpose instrumentation, including dial indicators, optical comparators, and coordinate measuring machines
- Ability to perform complex calculations involving angles, tolerances, dimensions, and other specified measurements
- Ability to identify defects and calculate defect rates against specified control limits
- Ability to inspect and test parts following rework, modifications, or repairs
- Ability to determine alternative methods of holding and setting up work for inspection when standard procedures or tools cannot be applied
- Must meet applicable certification requirements per Company and customer standards
What You'll Do
- Inspect mechanical parts, subassemblies, and assemblies for compliance with required quality standards.
- Perform final inspections before customer acceptance to ensure end products meet customer requirements.
- Apply inspection stamps to acceptable mechanical parts, subassemblies, and assemblies.
- Identify defects and verify corrective actions following rework, modifications, or repairs.
- Interface with Engineering regarding technical issues and problem resolution.
- Conduct quality audits to confirm processes are completed accurately, as needed.
- Perform field return evaluations to ensure returned products are repaired within quality guidelines, as needed.
- Work with machinists or engineers to determine setup procedures or perform special evaluations.
- Assist in training lower-level inspectors.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
