Position Overview
The University is seeking a Campus Police Officer for the Department of Public Safety. This is a full‑time, in‑person position with 24/7 coverage on the William Paterson University campus.
Responsibilities- Patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot or vehicle to ensure safety and security.
- Respond to incidents, enforce state laws, and manage traffic on campus.
- Conduct investigations, record reports, and preserve evidence.
- Coordinate with municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Assist with special events, provide police escort, and administer first aid.
- Operate radios and body‑worn cameras, maintain vehicle and equipment.
- Participate in ongoing training, including active shooter and sexual assault response.
- Minimum age 18, U.S. citizenship, New Jersey resident with valid driver’s license.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Successful completion of the NJ Police Training Commission Basic Course within 9 months of hire.
- Ability to pass medical, psychological, drug test, and background investigation.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse populations, and sound judgment.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Base salary $69,244.57. Eligible for health, dental, and retirement benefits. Full benefits information available on the university website.
