Position Description
Grounded in Eastern University's commitment to faith, reason, and justice, the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities and Deputy Title IX Coordinator provides leadership in cultivating a campus community marked by care, accountability, dignity, and respect. This position plays a vital role in supporting student learning and well-being through proactive education, restorative practices, and equitable processes.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Development/Title IX Coordinator, the Director oversees the University's student conduct process for all non-academic honesty matters and serves as Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The role is intentionally proactive and educational, emphasizing restoration, learning, and community responsibility while ensuring compliance with institutional policy and applicable laws.
Position Responsibilities
Student Rights, Responsibilities & Conduct
- Direct and administer the student conduct process for all non-academic honesty matters, ensuring fairness, consistency, and alignment with Eastern University policies and values.
- Employ restorative practices and educational approaches that promote accountability, reconciliation, and personal growth.
- Conduct or oversee investigations, hearings, and resolution meetings related to alleged policy violations.
- Determine and implement outcomes and sanctions that are developmentally appropriate and mission-aligned.
- Train and advise conduct hearing board members, and campus partners.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and assessment data related to student conduct.
- Lead the annual review and revision of the Student Handbook and the Code of Conduct.
- Serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator, supporting the Title IX Coordinator in ensuring Eastern University's compliance with current Title IX and related civil rights laws.
- Assist with the intake, assessment, investigation, and resolution of reports involving sex- and gender-based discrimination and misconduct, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating/domestic violence, and stalking.
- Ensure processes are equitable, trauma-informed, and respectful of the dignity of all parties.
- Coordinate supportive measures and referrals for students impacted by sexual misconduct in collaboration with campus and community partners.
- Develop and deliver educational initiatives focused on student rights and responsibilities, community standards, and the student conduct process.
- Lead and support campus-wide sexual assault prevention, consent education, and bystander intervention efforts.
- Partner with residence life, athletics, campus ministries, student organizations, and other campus offices to foster a culture of respect, safety, and shared responsibility.
- Serve as a visible, approachable resource for students and campus partners seeking guidance, information, or support.
- Serve in an on-call rotation to provide leadership in student crisis response, including behavioral concerns, critical incidents, and emergency situations.
- Offer consultation, assessment, and follow-up support to students and staff involved in crisis situations.
- Advise University leadership on student conduct trends, policy development, and emerging issues affecting student well-being.
- Review, assess, and recommend updates to student conduct and Title IX policies and procedures.
- Serve on University committees related to student care, safety, equity, and community standards.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of progressive experience in student conduct, Title IX, student affairs, or a related area.
- Demonstrated experience using restorative practices or educational resolution models.
- Working knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA, and related federal and state regulations.
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
