MQ Engineer
We are seeking a Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate a mission-critical, distributed MQ platform. This role blends strategic engineering with hands-on incident response, focusing on the stability of the current on-premise environment while contributing to the long-term cloud modernization strategy. You will take ownership of the IBM MQ platform, which supports major internal systems and external B2B integrations in a high-impact environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the IBM MQ platform running on Linux, supporting internal messaging systems and external B2B integrations.
- Perform troubleshooting and lead major incident response for a mission-critical enterprise platform.
- Design, implement, and deploy platforms to support and meet business needs, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to the lifecycle and roadmap planning for the MQ platform.
- Support the current on-premise, distributed MQ on Linux while helping build a future-state AWS-based MQ environment.
- Participate in the shift toward Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated deployments as part of a multi-year roadmap.
- Work closely with senior engineers, architects, and cross-functional teams.
Required Qualifications
Education:
An undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
Experience:
A minimum of five years of related work experience is required, including deep expertise in IBM MQ. Experience must include supporting mission-critical enterprise platforms and strong troubleshooting and incident response skills.
Technical
Skills:
- 5+ years of experience supporting IBM MQ v9+ on Linux server and virtualization platforms.
- Strong Linux systems experience.
- Basic experience with automation tools such as Terraform or similar.
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) fundamentals.
- Familiarity with industry security principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Platform modernization experience.
- Experience in high-availability financial or enterprise environments.
- Broader IaC and automation exposure.
Work Environment
This position requires candidates to be based in a hub location with an on-site presence three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). The role demands strong crisis management abilities and comfort in high-pressure, high-severity incidents. There is a strong emphasis on culture fit, collaboration, and long-term team integration.
