S. Clyde Weaver is hiring a full-time Assistant Manager at our farmer's market stand in the Lancaster County Farmer's Market in Wayne, PA!

The Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Market Manager in the daily operations of the market stand. This role supervises employees, works with customers and helps carry out the directives of the managers and leadership team. This position ensures that market personnel provide exceptional customer service. He/she will also act in the role of a manager in the manager’s absence.

Job Duties And Responsibilities Operations
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures through daily completion of managerial checklist
  • Ensure that all daily departmental tasks and checklists are being completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist Market Manager by providing a strong leadership presence, while ensuring that all customers receive excellent customer service and quality merchandise.
  • Supervise all aspects of daily retail operations (i.e., case set-up/display, opening or closing procedures, handling of money, product quality, staffing, etc.).
  • Provide leadership for employees as it relates to training, disciplinary action, job responsibilities, conflict resolution, product knowledge, fulfillment of daily retail expectations, etc.
  • Regularly communicate with Retail Market Manager to discuss strengths, opportunities, and trends in business.
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs to ensure the market stand is safe, functionable, and presentable.
  • Greet and assist customers when other sales associates are busy; process sales when necessary.
  • Demonstrate desired behaviors for staff including driving sales, handling difficult and/or complicated sales, cash management, inventory, and follow-up with customers.
  • Ensure company dress code standards are always met.
  • Assist Market Manager in delivering consistent, in the moment, feedback and coaching.
  • Act in the role of a manager in the manager’s absence.
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures, including health, safety, and security.
  • Highly productive, meetings targets for case preparation on off market days to ensure smooth openings.
  • Perform all duties as directed by supervisor.
Customer Service
  • Ensure that market personnel provide exceptional customer service.
  • Consistently create a welcoming environment for the customer by greeting and assisting; as well as quickly responding to customer inquiries and needs.
  • Responsible for upholding the highest levels of customer service.
  • Respond to requests and resolve market and customer service issues by following company protocol.
Training & Development
  • Provide resources and training to retail staff on sanitation practices.
  • Leverage individual staff strengths, and assist Market Manager with creating developmental plans to prepare all level positions for future growth within the organization.
  • Help Market Manager in identifying training needs and providing ongoing training opportunities to the team as needed.
  • Provide primary leadership in training new staff.
Skills And Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (college/university degree helpful but not required).
  • 3-5 years’ experience in retail food management.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be an excellent organizer and problem solver with strong project management skills.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate with confidence to both internal and external customers.
  • Serv Safe Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Employee is regularly exposed to various temperature changes while walking in and out of coolers. Cooking and/or cleaning odors, dust, and wet surfaces are prevalent throughout the course of working hours.
