Press Brake Machinist

The Press Brake Machinist operates and programs CNC press brake equipment to produce high-quality fabricated parts in accordance with detailed blueprints and quality standards. This role focuses on precise machine setup, code editing, tooling changes, and thorough inspection of finished components within a climate-controlled, lean manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up material and machine offsets on CNC press brake equipment to meet blueprint specifications and part requirements.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, including frequently changing prints, to ensure correct dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication details.
• Edit and manipulate CNC press brake code to run new jobs and parts, optimizing programs for accuracy and efficiency.
• Change out and configure machine tooling based on job requirements to meet specific fabrication and forming needs.
• Load raw material and unload finished goods using hoists, jib cranes, and overhead cranes in a safe and controlled manner.
• Perform detailed quality inspections on all machined parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMM/Faro equipment.
• Verify that all parts meet dimensional and quality standards before releasing them to downstream processes.
• Work collaboratively within machining cells to maintain efficient material flow and support lean manufacturing practices.
• Follow all safety procedures when operating press brakes, lifting equipment, and inspection tools.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support productivity and product quality.

Essential Skills

• Previous, hands-on press brake experience, including setup and operation of CNC press brake equipment.
• Strong machining and fabrication knowledge beyond high-volume production machining environments.
• Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpretation, including working with frequently changing prints.
• Ability to set up machine jobs independently, including establishing offsets and selecting appropriate tooling.
• Experience editing and manipulating CNC press brake code to run new jobs and parts.
• Skill in performing quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMM/Faro systems.
• Experience safely operating hoists, jib cranes, and overhead cranes to move raw material and finished goods.
• Consistent work history with stable employment and non-attendance-based reasons for job changes.

Work Environment

The role is based in a climate-controlled machine shop located on the far east end of the production floor, organized into machining cells to support lean manufacturing and efficient material flow. Most cells house no more than two machinists, allowing for focused work in a relatively quiet and orderly area. Ventilation in the facility is good, though there may occasionally be a visible haze in welding areas when galvanized steel is being welded due to the chemical reaction to heat.

The position works on 1st shift, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., using CNC press brakes, hoists, jib cranes, overhead cranes, and precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMM/Faro equipment.
