Position

Assistant Store Manager – supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations, using elements of Game Stop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model to promote a sales culture and deliver outstanding guest service. This role supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Provide best-in-class guest service: greeting guests, addressing questions and concerns promptly and courteously, informing guests of promotions, recommending items, and circulating throughout the store to prioritize guest needs over tasks.
  • Support the shopping environment, visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships to drive sales and repeat business.
  • Process guest purchases/returns accurately using the POS system; ensure correct changes, proper bagging, and issue receipts with high-quality service.
  • Respond to guest comments or questions in person or by phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.
  • Promote Game Stop guest benefits, including new title reservations, trade-in, and loyalty programs.
  • Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training store associates on policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines.
  • Observe associate performance and provide feedback; address unsatisfactory performance in coordination with the Store Manager.
  • Provide recognition and feedback to associates and document performance where required in HR systems.
  • Ensure onboarding, job training, and compliance training are completed prior to opening or closing shifts; ensure associates understand policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, financial protocol, and ethics.
  • Schedule store associates, manage breaks/meals, and maintain staffing to deliver exceptional guest service.
  • Handle payroll tasks, including approving pay, paid time off, and time edits; verify accurate compensation.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, organization, merchandising, and functioning fixtures and equipment.
  • Fulfill Omni-Channel orders daily and protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention practices.
  • Support achievement of sales, profit, and shrink goals; perform administrative duties as required.
  • Conduct inventory counts, restock merchandise, and ensure products are represented and organized on the sales floor.
  • Count, balance, and reconcile daily transactions in the POS system; manage closeout paperwork and bank deposits per guidelines.
  • Verify shipments for discrepancies; conduct inventories and communicate discrepancies to leadership.
  • Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls; label boxes with packing lists.
  • Maintain safety awareness; report injuries per company guidelines.
  • Maintain store records and ensure manuals are up to date.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct; follow opening/closing procedures.
Qualifications
  • Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States; minimum age 18.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
  • Retail management experience preferred (6+ months); retail sales/guest service/management experience preferred (2+ years).
  • Video game knowledge preferred.
