SP&T Operator

The SP&T Operator supports coating operations by preparing, mixing, and delivering solvent-based solutions and related materials to coating equipment. This role works closely with Coating Assistants and Coater Operators to ensure safe handling of volatile chemicals, accurate batching/mixing to specification, and timely supply of materials to meet production schedules. The SP&T Operator is responsible for process stability, product quality, and maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant work area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and mix solvent-based solutions for coating operations per work orders, formulas, and applicable SOPs.
  • Test solutions per established quality standards.
  • Work directly with Coating Assistants/Operators to stage, deliver, and replenish coating materials to ensure continuous operation.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail by verifying material identity, lot numbers, quantities, and mix ratios; document batches and transfers per site requirements.
  • Follow chemical safety requirements and safe work practices when handling volatile chemicals (including use of required PPE, ventilation controls, grounding/bonding, and spill response procedures).
  • Operate and monitor mix/transfer equipment; perform routine cleaning, changeovers, and end-of-run shutdown activities.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in the mixing/coating support area; ensure containers are closed, labeled, stored, and disposed of properly.
  • Safely operate fork truck, pallet jack, and/or lift equipment (as trained/certified) to move raw materials, totes, drums, and finished/return materials.
  • Complete required inspections/checklists and basic preventative maintenance tasks; report safety, quality, and equipment concerns promptly.
  • Demonstrate good time management by prioritizing mix requests, staging materials in advance, and supporting line changeovers to reduce downtime.
  • After initial training/qualification, work independently to execute daily work plans while maintaining strong communication with the production team.

Education,

Skills & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred; coating, mixing, or chemical-handling experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of chemical safety, SDS use, hazard communication, and safe work practices when working with flammable/volatile solvents.
  • Fork truck and/or lift experience required; must be able to become site certified/qualified.
  • Strong attention to detail, including the ability to follow formulas/work instructions and complete documentation accurately.
  • Good time management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently after initial qualification, while maintaining clear communication and a strong safety mindset.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and electronic recordkeeping preferred.
