Job Summary
The Construction Inspector will perform duties related to the inspection of the construction of public infrastructure and development construction projects, including streets, drainage systems, grading, water and wastewater systems, facilities, both in-house and contracted.
Role & Responsibilities- Inspects all public infrastructure facilities for compliance with approved plans and specifications, City, State and Federal requirements, and the City’s safety and aesthetics goals.
- Reviews inspections reports and CCTV footage for existing underground infrastructure prior to construction and new underground infrastructure after construction.
- Coordinates and oversees testing of public infrastructure, including, but not limited to, compaction testing, concrete compressive strength testing, and quality control testing for water and wastewater facilities.
- Ensures that construction activities are in compliance with City, State and Federal requirements, particularly stormwater and erosion control requirements.
- Reviews contractor invoices and pay requests for accuracy for public infrastructure projects.
- Assists in managing construction schedules.
- Reviews engineering construction plans and submittals; ensures submittals contain accurate material needs and materials meet specification requirements.
- Maintains positive and professional relationships with City staff, contractors, and developers.
- Develops punch list for City staff and for contractors for new construction or rehabilitation project needs.
- Identifies and communicates deficiencies during construction with City staff and contractors in a timely and professional manner.
- Provides GIS mapping updates to personnel based on field inspections; updates, finalizes and files construction plans with the engineering division.
- Considerable knowledge of street, drainage, grading, water and wastewater construction and maintenance practices and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations pertaining to street, drainage, grading, water and wastewater operations.
- Ability to perform algebra, geometry, or statistics mathematical equations.
- Ability to read, interpret and research construction plans, gauges, dials, meters, technical handbooks, ordinances, surveys, easements, deeds and construction staking.
- Ability to professionally communicate with contractors, developers and citizens.
- Regular, reliable, and punctual levels of attendance are essential job functions and expectations of this position.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Five years of experience in streets, drainage systems, grading, water and wastewater systems maintenance and construction duties.
- Must have a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
