Adjunct Instructor—Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)

Position Summary:
Weatherford College occasionally recruits adjunct instructors. Eligible applicants are added to a pool from which the search committee selects candidates when course openings arise during the academic year. Adjunct faculty teach courses in the Physical Therapy Assistant discipline, facilitating student acquisition of the specific learning outcomes identified for the assigned courses and mentoring students inside and outside the classroom. Teaching modalities include face‑to‑face, hybrid, online (Zoom), and dual‑credit instruction.
Types of hours vary and may include day, evening, and/or weekend instruction.
- Teach courses in the approved discipline, facilitating student acquisition of the specific learning outcomes identified for the assigned courses.
- Mentor students inside and outside of the classroom.
- Create and maintain an effective learning environment in the modalities of the courses assigned (face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, or dual‑credit).
- Provide instruction in both traditional and non‑traditional learning modes and engage in instructional preparation.
- Provide timely feedback to students and respond to student communications in a timely manner.
- Assess student performance and submit final grades promptly.
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior.
- Be available to students by appointment.
- Attend adjunct faculty meetings.
- Assess courses at departmental and institutional levels.
- Complete any required training and other related duties as assigned.
- PTA with a minimum of an Associate degree in physical therapy; licensed or eligible for license in the Texas state.
- Meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools credential standards for teaching workforce or degree completion courses (appropriate academic degree and demonstrated competencies).
- Required credentials and experience:
- Associate degree and 2‑5 years work experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 6‑10 years work experience OR Master’s degree and 11‑15 years work experience OR Doctorate and 16+ years work experience, with credentialing as appropriate.
- 5 years clinical experience.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, and dual‑credit courses.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, college personnel, peers, and the public.
- Ability to treat all persons with respect, dignity, and justice without discrimination based on age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
- Commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards in the use of College time and resources.
- Familiarity with and adherence to College policies and procedures.
