Job Description Summary
Weatherford College occasionally has openings for adjunct instructors. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for this continuous recruitment adjunct faculty position within the department. Applying for an adjunct appointment adds the applicant to a pool available to the departmental search committee for consideration when a need arises during the academic year. When an opening occurs, the hiring manager will draw from the pool of applicants on an as-needed basis.
Primary duties of adjunct faculty include teaching courses in the approved discipline, providing instruction to facilitate student acquisition of the specific learning outcomes identified for the assigned courses, and mentoring students inside and outside the classroom.
Teaching ModalitiesTeaching modalities may be face-to-face, hybrid, online/Zoom, or within the context of dual credit instruction. Hours vary depending on the need and course schedule, and may include day, evening, and/or weekend instruction.
All faculty members are expected to maintain familiarity with and adhere to College policies and procedures.
Online Teaching PositionAll faculty members must meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) credential standards, which normally include an earned Master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in the teaching discipline. Transcripts, certificates, and/or license must be submitted with the application.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFaculty are expected to:
- Provide instruction in both traditional and non-traditional learning modes and engage in instructional preparation.
- Provide timely feedback to students and respond to student communications promptly.
- Assess student performance; submit final grades in a timely fashion.
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior.
- Be available to students by appointment.
- Attend adjunct faculty meetings.
- Assess courses on departmental and institutional levels.
- Complete any required training and other related duties as assigned.
Each adjunct faculty member must demonstrate the ability to:
- Instruct in face-to-face, hybrid, online, and dual credit courses.
- Provide instruction that achieves the specific goals and objectives of all assigned courses.
- Create a professional and effective learning environment in the classroom and/or laboratory.
- Communicate effectively with students, college personnel, administration, peers, and public groups.
- Treat all persons with respect, dignity, and justice, without discrimination.
- Exercise the highest professional and ethical standards in the use of College time and resources.
- Observe the stated policies and procedures of the College.
This position is designated as a security-sensitive position and requires a satisfactory criminal history background check. Males between the ages of 18 through 25 must be properly registered with the Selective Service System to be eligible for employment.
