Position Summary Information

Job Description

Summary:

  • Primary duties of adjunct faculty include teaching courses in the approved discipline, providing instruction to facilitate student acquisition of the specific learning outcomes identified for the assigned courses, and mentoring students in and outside of the classroom.
  • The adjunct faculty member creates and maintains an effective learning environment in the modalities of the courses assigned, be they face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, or dual credit instruction.
  • All faculty members are expected to maintain familiarity with and adhere to College policies and procedures.

Education:

  • All faculty members must provide a minimum Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) credential standard, typically including a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in the teaching discipline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching courses in the approved discipline.
  • Providing instruction that facilitates student acquisition of identified learning outcomes.
  • Mentoring students inside and outside the classroom.
  • Creating and maintaining an effective learning environment in face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, and dual credit courses.
  • Communicating effectively with students, college personnel, administration, peers, and public groups.
  • Treating all persons with respect, dignity, and justice, without discrimination based on protected characteristics.
  • Exercising the highest professional and ethical standards in the use of College time and resources.
  • Observing the stated policies and procedures of the College.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to instruct in face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, and dual credit courses.
  • Ability to provide instruction that achieves specific goals and objectives of assigned courses.
  • Ability to create a professional and effective learning environment in the classroom and/or laboratory.
  • Effective communication skills with students, personnel, administration, peers, and public groups.
  • Ability to treat all persons with respect, dignity, and justice, without discrimination based on age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
