WISD is committed to fostering academic success, personal growth, and college and career readiness for all students. Day-to-day responsibilities include individual and group student counseling, academic advising, and support in course selection and graduation planning. The counselor guides students through college and career exploration, assists with applications and scholarship opportunities, and coordinates resources to address social-emotional needs. The role involves collaborating with educators, families, and community partners, developing and delivering guidance programs, and maintaining accurate student records.
The counselor also supports campus initiatives related to student success, behavior interventions, and crisis response as needed.
- Candidates should possess strong skills in student counseling and supporting high school students with personal, social, and emotional challenges.
- Candidates should possess skills in academic advising and education planning, including course selection, graduation requirements, and college readiness.
- Candidates should possess skills in career counseling, helping students explore career pathways, postsecondary options, and workforce opportunities.
- State certification or licensure as a school counselor, and a master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field is required
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills with students, families, staff, and community organizations.
- Ability to manage confidential information, maintain accurate documentation, and use student information systems and basic office technology.
- Experience working in a diverse school setting and commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive counseling practices.
