Location: Based out of Weatherford, TX, with hybrid flexibility for the right candidate

Reports to: Head of Sales

Travel: Periodic travel for customer meetings, plant visits, trade shows, conferences, and industry events; generally expected to be approximately 20% or less

Position Summary:

Southwest Fluid Products, Inc. (SWFP) is seeking an Applications Engineer to serve as the company's primary technical resource during the pre-award sales process. This role partners closely with the Head of Sales, Sales Support Lead, Design and Engineering, Project Management, and manufacturer representatives to develop technically sound, commercially practical water and wastewater treatment solutions.

The Applications Engineer provides technical expertise throughout opportunity development by reviewing plans and specifications, developing conceptual treatment solutions, preparing technical scopes of work, supporting proposals, and representing SWFP in technical customer interactions. Following project award, this role supports the technical transition to Project Management and Design and Engineering but does not own project execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Solution Development and Sales Support (Primary Ownership)
    • a) Develop conceptual water and wastewater treatment solutions aligned with customer requirements and SWFP capabilities.
    • b) Review plans, specifications, and technical documents to identify project requirements, risks, and solution opportunities.
    • c) Recommend treatment processes, equipment selections, and system configurations.
    • d) Prepare technical scopes, proposal narratives, equipment recommendations, and specification review comments.
    • e) Support proposal development by providing technically accurate content and guidance.
  • Customer Engagement and Technical Education
    • a) Participate in customer meetings, plant assessments, and site visits as the technical subject matter expert.
    • b) Deliver technical presentations, lunch-and-learns, webinars, and customer education sessions.
    • c) Represent SWFP at conferences, trade shows, and industry events.
    • d) Support technical training for manufacturer representatives and external sales partners.
    • e) Build technical credibility with consulting engineers, municipalities, contractors, operators, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Technical Review and Project Transition
    • a) Support technical reviews before proposal submission.
    • b) Support the technical transition of awarded projects to Project Management and Design and Engineering.
    • c) Provide limited post-award technical clarification and submittal support as needed.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • a) Partner with Sales, Design and Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Procurement, and manufacturers.
    • b) Communicate technical risks, assumptions, and recommendations clearly.
    • c) Support standardization of technical sales processes and documentation.
    • a) Identify opportunities to improve proposal quality, technical standards, and sales effectiveness.
    • b) Maintain current knowledge of treatment technologies and industry trends.
    • c) Contribute to SWFP's technical knowledge base and standard solution library.
  • Authority

    Note:

    The Head of Sales retains ownership of customer relationships, sales strategy, pricing, forecasting, and commercial negotiations. The Applications Engineer owns technical solution development and technical support throughout the sales process.
