Job Description Summary
Provides a safe and secure environment on the Weatherford College Campus. Protects the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Guards college property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Required EducationHigh School diploma or G.E.D.
Required ExperienceSuccessful completion of the Texas Police Academy.
Preferred EducationAssociate’s degree or higher preferred.
Preferred ExperiencePrior law enforcement experience preferred.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProtects the social and academic environment and preserves the legal rights of individuals by patrolling buildings and grounds of the college; examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure; warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts; inspects equipment and machinery for tampering;
investigates accidents, incidents, and offenses, and prepares appropriate reports; regulates traffic and parking to maintain orderly flow; enforces campus motor vehicle rules and regulations; maintains uniforms, equipment, and vehicles; watches for and reports irregularities or hazards such as leaking water pipes; ensures doors are secured properly; observes college personnel to guard against theft of company property; summons outside resources during emergencies;
permits authorized persons to access college property; records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment for supervisory staff; proactively builds positive professional relationships with Weatherford College students, faculty, and staff.
Other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Candidate must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities including: read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community; write speeches and articles for publication; present information to top management, public groups, and boards of directors; perform mathematical operations; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
interpret complex technical instructions; maintain mental acuity.
Must be a qualified Peace Officer of Texas and TCOLE certified, duly sworn, with no indictment for any criminal offense, no history of certain probation or court‑ordered supervision within the last ten years, no disqualifying firearm restrictions, no outstanding warrants, no dishonorable discharge if military service, good moral character, stable employment history, no prior felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude, and demonstrate capability for training administration.
PhysicalDemands and Requirements
- Must not have used illegal drugs for at least 24 months prior to testing, and show no trace of drug dependency after a physical examination, blood test, or other medical test.
- Must have vision correctable to 20/20 and free of color blindness.
- Must have hearing equity of 15‑15 dB.
- Must possess a current, valid Texas driver’s license or be able to obtain one.
- Driving record must reflect no more than three moving violations or preventable accidents in the last 36 months.
- Must pass a physical and psychological exam.
This position is designated as a security sensitive position and requires a satisfactory criminal history background check.
Males between the ages of 18 to 25 must be properly registered with the Selective Service System to be eligible for employment.
