The Punch Press & Fab Shop Supervisor is responsible for supervising shop employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. This person always makes safety a top priority.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development. Makes employment decisions. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas.
  • Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager.
  • Manage Quality Deficiency Reports.
  • Manage department priorities and maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Must be able to read routers, prints/schematics
  • Responsible for rectifying quality problems by discussing situations with other Group Leaders and Quality Auditor to decide on action to be taken.
  • Ensure jobs are running necessary to meet proper cycle time and/or product quality.
  • Verify daily job performance standards are being attained.
  • Ensures an even production line flow and verifies that parts are produced to quality and production standards.
  • Inspect and take any corrective action necessary to ensure employee safety and quality.
  • Generate work orders for sales orders on a request basis for release to the shop floor.
  • Manage work order requirements generated by MRP for discrete manufactured parts, by reviewing MRP messages, releasing messages in order to create work order headers, and reviewing work order details after work order generation.
  • Technical skills require the ability to assemble scales and subassemblies to completion. Calibration, testing, and quality checks with the use of various tools and visual inspection is required.
  • Must clearly understand blueprints, wiring and checking product to ensure that each wire is conforming to specifications

Supervisory Responsibility

Duties include supervising 15 to 20 direct reports

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, salaried position. Scheduled hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however additional hours and weekend work may be frequently required as job duties demand.

Required

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree or certification in manufacturing technology, industrial supervision, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a production environment
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a fabrication & punch press shop.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or team lead experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Operation Management or Industrial Engineering
  • Three (3) years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with punch press machines and automated fabrication equipment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in using production management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience implementing process improvements.
