District Maintenance Technician
Job Goal:
To provide a safe and efficient environment for the purpose of education.
- Physical Examination as required by the district.
- Knowledgeable of building maintenance (electricity, plumbing, heating, carpentry, building construction) and operation.
- Shall be of mental and physical condition which would not interfere with accomplishing assignments.
- Knowledge of Building, Plumbing and Electric Codes for City, State, and National Standards.
- Have good communication skills.
- Knowledgeable of OSHA, Right to Know, AHERA, and Radon laws.
- Child Abuse Certificate on file.
- Health Certificate on file.
- Certification, experience, and other qualifications as determined by the Director of Building and Grounds.
- Maintain a good rapport with all district staff and business associates of the school district.
- Maintain day-to-day operations and assume responsibility for maintaining the following systems: commercial wiring, HVAC, Boilers, and plumbing as directed by the Building and Grounds Director.
- Have the ability to evaluate and troubleshoot problems as they arise and be able to fix problems start to finish without help.
- Knowledge and experience with commercial 480/277 volt 3-phase electrical systems.
- Good knowledge required of electrical wiring diagrams and ability to troubleshoot VFDs, heat pumps, electric motors, Johnson Control temperature controls, and any other systems within buildings.
- Ability to perform work required unsupervised, be able to take directions and apply to work assigned.
- Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as required. Carry cell phone provided by the district as required for on-call maintenance as needed.
- Must be professional, responsive, courteous, and efficient in the handling of all work order requests.
- Assure safety standards are used which comply with all school, local, city, state, and Federal guidelines.
- The ability to exert 75 to 100 pounds of force or more occasionally, and 15 to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly.
- Licensing:
- Any State of Iowa journeyman electrical, plumbing, mechanical license highly beneficial.
- Licenses or certificates supporting HVAC and Refrigeration desired.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds.
Salary and work year to be determined by the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
EvaluationsPerformance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Building and Grounds.
