Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Role

We're hiring a civil engineer who can produce civil design, calculations, drafting, and permit-ready plan sets with accuracy and limited hand-holding. This is a production-focused role with a clear path into project management, engineer-of-record responsibility, business development, and higher compensation for the right person.

This is not a coordination-only PM role. We need someone who can actually produce the work: design, calculations, drafting, plan production, and quality control from concept through permit-ready drawings.

Where You'll Work
  • Early-career / EIT: in-office in St. Louis, with senior engineers close at hand.
  • Experienced civil designer, PE, or project manager: in-office in St. Louis or remote, depending on independence, communication, production ability, and project responsibility.
  • Remote candidates must already be able to manage their own workflow, communicate clearly, and deliver clean work without daily oversight.
Straight Talk

Civil & Survey is a small, principal-led civil engineering and land surveying firm. We do good work, charge fairly for it, and expect people to own their responsibilities.

We value competence, clear communication, accurate work, steady effort, and professional judgment. You won't find corporate buzzwords or manufactured office culture here. You will find real projects, direct expectations, and room to grow if you create value.

If that sounds like a relief instead of a red flag, this may be a good fit.

What You'll Do
  • Produce civil engineering designs and calculations across a general mix of project types, primarily municipal, industrial, and land development.
  • Draft and deliver complete, permit-ready plan sets.
  • Prepare hydrology and hydraulics, grading, earthwork, utilities, drainage, and supporting calculations.
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, survey crews, contractors, and project stakeholders as needed.
  • If licensed and qualified, serve as engineer of record on projects you lead.
  • Represent owners during construction when the project calls for it. We perform owner's representation, and you may too.
  • Manage your own production workflow and hit deadlines.
  • Review and QC your own work before it leaves your desk.
Where You Can Take It

This role rewards measurable value. More responsibility and more compensation follow independence, sound judgment, clean production, project leadership, and client trust.

  • Want to lead projects? Get licensed, prove you can manage the work, and take the wheel.
  • Want to serve as engineer of record? Show that your work is accurate, buildable, and defensible.
  • Want to bring in work? Bring profitable work through the door and share in the upside.

We would rather pay a strong, motivated person well than build layers of management around average production.

What We're Looking For
  • Ability to independently produce accurate civil design, calculations, drafting, and plan sets. Capability matters more than tenure.
  • EIT at minimum; PE preferred for candidates who want to seal drawings and serve as engineer of record.
  • Proficiency in a civil CAD platform. Civil 3D and/or Carlson experience preferred.
  • Solid civil engineering fundamentals and the discipline to get the details right.
  • Good written and verbal communication. We are direct, but we still need clear, professional coordination.
  • A self-starter who manages time well, owns their work, and asks good questions before a small issue becomes a big one.
  • Land surveying experience is a plus. We do survey-related work, including projects for the NRCS.
Compensation

We pay for ability, independence, responsibility, and results - not seniority for its own sake.

  • EIT / production-focused civil engineer: around $75,000 to start, depending on experience and ability.
  • Experienced production engineer or highly independent designer: generally $95,000-$120,000, depending on production speed, accuracy, judgment, and project responsibility.
  • PE / project manager / engineer-of-record candidate: generally $115,000-$135,000+, depending on ability, leadership, and responsibility.
  • Experienced PE / project manager who also brings in profitable work: $135,000+ plus incentive bonus opportunity.
  • Benefits include health insurance, PTO, profit sharing, training, and continuing education. Final compensation and benefits depend on experience, licensure, independence, and demonstrated ability.

* Civil & Survey, LLC is an equal opportunity employer.*

Pay: $75,000.00 - $ per year

Benefits:
  • Flexible schedule
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development assistance
License/Certification:
  • PE license (any state) or have you passed the EIT (Required)
