Summary As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Epworth, you will have the opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive medical assistance for youth presenting illness or injury ages 11-18. Administration of medication, accurate documentation of medication and assistance to staff with general health related or medication questions. Transcribing orders from the psychiatric medication reviews and provide health assessments of youth consistent with current practices.

This position demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision and values of the agency by engaging in respectful, cooperative relationships with customers (i.e., clients, employees and external stakeholders); being accountable for providing services and ensuring safety to customers while empowering customers in achieving the agency’s mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

Medication management including: the safe administration of medications, accurate documentation of administration of medications, transcribing orders, maintaining medication storage and count as regulated. Educates clients, staff and guardians about medications. Assists staff with questions regarding client medications.

Implements, as assigned, the Medication Administration Certification training program; training and testing staff on appropriate medication administration techniques to ensure safe medication administration to clients.

Provide medical assessment and first aid for client illness/injuries as indicated. Make referrals for further care if indicated.

Able to perform nursing skills consistent with current standards including, but not limited to, appropriately checking vital signs and FSBS checks.

Completes documentation of medical records and findings in accordance with standards and agency polices/procedures.

Ensure continuity of care by communicating all health information accurately and consistently to other nurses, staff, physicians and other members of the treatment team.

Assist in crisis to provide for the safety and well-being of clients and colleague.

Practice Infection Control Procedures including reporting Communicable Diseases, educating staff and clients about Infection Control and initiating Infection Control procedures if indicated.

Assist colleague with basic first aid and answer general health related questions*. Make over the counter medication (i.e. Tylenol, ibuprofen) available for staff access. (
* This is not to replace a formal exam and review by the staff’s own personal medical provider.)Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to utilize strength-based, therapeutic crisis intervention methods with adolescents.

Understanding of at-risk youth client population.

Ability to effectively instruct clients and oversee their daily activities.

Ability to read, interpret, and implement agency and program documents, including procedure manuals, treatment plans, etc.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
