Position: Product Analyst (Hybrid)

Overview

The Product Analyst helps shape and grow Property & Casualty insurance products, playing an important role in driving profitable results. This role uses data and insights from the regional, state, and agency levels to understand what’s driving profit and loss, identify growth opportunities, and support smart, strategic product decisions. By analyzing customer demographics, competitive trends, and regulatory requirements, the Product Analyst develops product and pricing recommendations and turns them into clear, actionable business requirements.

This position also takes a lead role on cross-functional teams, working closely with partners across the organization to bring product updates from idea to launch.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of profitability, product performance, and growth across various rating metrics to identify loss drivers, profit drivers, market trends, and opportunities to enhance product positioning.
  • Develop and support recommendations to address loss drivers, collaborating with cross-functional partners to implement solutions aligned with state-level strategies.
  • Create comprehensive, well-structured proposals for senior leadership review and present findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Monitor state regulatory changes using third-party regulatory tracking tools to ensure ongoing compliance. Partner with the Legal Department to prepare and submit required form, rule, or rate filings.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel extensively to:
    • Build pivot tables to summarize, analyze, and visualize data
    • Apply formulas to manipulate and analyze datasets
    • Create cross-tabulations
    • Develop charts to clearly communicate analytical insights
  • Lead the rate review process for assigned products by researching and analyzing internal and external data, competitor information, and market basket reports to support product and pricing decisions.
  • Collaborate effectively with Marketing, IT, Underwriting, Actuarial, and Operations teams to identify optimal rate, product, and underwriting changes that drive profitable growth.
  • Manage rate, rule, and form filing implementation timelines, ensuring adherence to established filing schedules and holding business partners accountable for deliverables.
  • Develop detailed and comprehensive business requirements for IT, and partner closely with IT to ensure accurate and timely implementation of product changes.
  • Leverage Excel and Snowflake analytics tools to perform rigorous analyses and develop sound, data-backed recommendations.
  • Communicate market developments, upcoming product changes, industry trends, and other relevant insights to impacted departments.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively in Microsoft Teams and in-person meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or professional-level knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience.
  • 2–4 years of related experience, or an Associate’s degree plus 4–6 years of equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with insurance policy forms, underwriting rules, and state regulations.
  • Strong experience analyzing financial results, profitability, and forecasts, with the ability to evaluate both top- and bottom-line impacts of action plans.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple data sources to identify profit improvement and growth opportunities across assigned states.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision. Demonstrated flexibility to handle work at various stages of completion simultaneously.
  • Basic knowledge of actuarial and pricing concepts, along with foundational project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of market and regulatory research tools, including rate and form circulars issued by rating bureaus.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude with excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Snowflake and/or other data analysis tools preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in making critical product and pricing decisions for assigned states or lines of business.
