Job Description - Direct Care Worker II (260000W1)
The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks a caring and compassionate applicant for the role of DIRECT CARE WORKER II (DCW II). The DCW II position is a shift supervisor that provides oversight and direct services to individuals with developmental disabilities, offering a valuable career foundation for professional growth within DDS.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist individuals in meeting their personal care and nutritional needs.
- Assist and support individuals in making choices in their life.
- Maintain individuals’ rights by complying with applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide leisure activities; may drive individuals to work, appointments, and recreational activities.
- Provide daily supervision and training to Direct Care Worker I staff, ensuring advocacy, respect, and positive regard for individuals.
- As shift supervisor, oversee health and safety, including medication administration.
- Communicate with medical and health care providers regarding health concerns and accompany individuals to appointments as necessary.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures necessary to assure the health and safety of individuals, including evacuation procedures.
- Ability to plan, assign, and coordinate the activities of others.
- Ability to give written or oral instructions clearly and understandably.
Must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

South Valley West Program, Webster, MA.
Schedule:
2:00 pm – 10:00 pm.
Days Off:
Friday/Saturday.
Shift: Evening, Full‑time.
Number of Openings: 1.
Salary: $51,155.26 – $66,059.24 per year.

DDS serves over 43,000 individuals and manages a $3 billion operating budget with approximately 5,500 staff.
RequirementsMinimum Entrance Requirements:
At least one year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience providing direct support services to persons with developmental/intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities. Equivalent experience substitutions are allowed.
Substitution:
An associate’s degree or higher in a human services field (e.g., sociology, special education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or related field) may substitute for the required experience.
All incumbents must possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at the class level appropriate to the assignment.
Background Screening- Criminal background check (CORI) per Executive Office of Health and Human Services regulations.
Qualified candidates will receive a comprehensive benefits package. Position holders must meet the vaccination requirements of Title 101 CMR 23.00: COVID‑19 and influenza vaccinations (or mitigation measures) for State Hospitals and State Congregate Care Facilities.
