Packaging Operator
Job Purpose:
The Packaging Operator operates, sets up, changes over, troubleshoots, and cleans equipment such as sleeving, case packing, or palletizing machinery. This position ensures products meet specifications, makes minor adjustments, clears jams, and prepares equipment for cleaning. The operator continuously feeds materials (sleeves, corrugate, shrink film, glue, pallets, stretch wrap) and adheres to food‑processing requirements via routine checks and food‑safe practices.
- Follow all safety, working, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) rules.
- Report to and follow directions of the Production Supervisors.
- Operate moving equipment safely and adjust within process limits to package accurate, defect‑free cases with sleeved bottles.
- Observe machine operations to ensure quality conformity to specifications and standard operating procedures.
- Inspect packaged product throughout the process—filled bottles, sleeved bottles, formed cases, shrink‑wrapped cases, and full pallets—to verify specifications, adjust the process, and escalates issues to a supervisor.
- Supply packaging equipment with sleeves, corrugate, shrink film, glue, pallets, and stretch wrap.
- Periodically count and record finished or rejected materials.
- Clean equipment, ancillary tools, conveyors, and surrounding areas; maintain audit‑ready condition during and after production.
- Monitor production line and conveyors to watch for back‑ups, jams, or rejects; resolve stoppages and record downtime reasons.
- Stop machines when faults occur, clear jams, and report malfunctions to supervisor or technician.
- Troubleshoot problems, perform minor repairs with correct tools, and participate in preventive maintenance.
- Demonstrate proactive monitoring, using visual observation of gauges and mechanical sounds; inform maintenance of suspected issues if unable to correct.
- Aid in training new personnel or upskilling team members.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computational skills (simple math and reasoning).
- Ability to operate equipment after training.
- Ability to troubleshoot small problems and escalated issues.
- Work safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety procedures.
- Possess or be able to obtain an Industrial Truck Operator License.
- Handle ambiguity and work in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Proficiency in English; comfortable with written and verbal communication.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting/Standing/Walking/Lifting/Carrying: stands throughout shift, walks on uneven concrete or tiles, lifts full packaged cases, loads material into infeed areas.
- Pushing/Pulling/Bending/Stooping: pushes/pulls rolls of labels onto the sleever and stacks collapsed boxes on a pallet; uses brooms and mops during cleanup; bends/stoops occasionally for corrugate material feed.
- Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling/Twisting/Turning: may squat to pick up product or during cleanup; occasional twisting and turning at waist level when loading material or performing routine duties.
- Climbing/Balancing/Reaching: steps on/off platforms, climbs stairs, reaches below or above shoulder level when removing/adding boxes or loading materials.
- Grasping/Manipulation: frequent use of hands and fingers to press buttons, open doors, type on a keyboard, clear jams, execute changeovers, perform quality checks.
- Notify supervision of repairs or adjustments affecting product quality or food safety.
- Observe and comply with the color‑coded container policy in Production Areas.
- Perform duties to meet Company, Customer, and Government requirements and standards.
- Initiate actions preventing non‑conformities related to food safety and product quality.
- Identify and record any issues related to food safety and quality.
- Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming products until corrected.
