Position Overview

The Engineering Manager, Advanced Programs is responsible for leading technically complex, high-priority engineering programs from concept through execution, validation, and delivery. This role operates at the intersection of advanced R&D, customer-driven development, and operational execution, with ownership of technical performance, schedule, and cost.

Operating under the KULR ONE Design Solutions (K1-DS) umbrella, this position manages advanced development programs involving battery systems, safety-critical hardware, testing, modeling, and integrated engineering solutions for internal product development and external customers.

The Engineering Manager, Advanced Programs serves as a player-coach, providing hands-on technical leadership while managing cross-functional engineering teams. This role partners closely with Test & Analysis, Manufacturing, Quality, Business Development, and customers to ensure successful program outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program & Technical Leadership
  • Own end-to-end execution of advanced engineering programs, including scope definition, technical strategy, schedule, cost, and risk management.
  • Lead technically complex, high-risk, or first-of-kind programs through design, build, test, and qualification phases.
  • Serve as the primary technical and execution interface for internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Drive program planning, milestone definition, and technical readiness reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR as applicable).
  • Provide expert technical guidance across battery systems, thermal management, safety, testing, modeling, and multi-physics analysis.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables including test plans, hazard analyses, analysis reports, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with internal processes, safety requirements, and customer or regulatory standards.
  • Support integration of testing, modeling, and analysis into broader program execution.
Cost, Schedule & Performance Management
  • Develop and manage program budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Track and report program KPIs, technical progress, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Drive cost-effective engineering solutions without compromising quality or safety.
Cross-Functional & Organizational Leadership
  • Coordinate across Engineering, Test & Analysis, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Business Development.
  • Support proposal development, technical scoping, and customer engagements for advanced programs.
  • Contribute to Engineering Leadership Council (ELC) activities as assigned, supporting broader engineering operations and strategy.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position manages multiple engineers, technical staff, and teams.

Supervisory duties include:

  • Interviewing, selecting, and recommending candidates for hire.
  • Onboarding, training, mentoring, and assigning work to team members.
  • Building and scaling teams to meet program demand and strategic priorities.
  • Delegating work and providing clear technical and execution direction.
  • Delivering regular performance feedback and conducting formal evaluations.
  • Recommending compensation adjustments, promotions, and reclassifications.
  • Partnering with HR on performance management and corrective actions when needed.
