MRI/CT Technologist at Houston Physicians Hospital

This multimodality position is accountable for performing quality MRI and CT imaging through the application of advanced technical knowledge while maintaining strict attention to patient care. The role provides expertise for all ages, from neonatal/newborn to adults, and accommodates patients ranging from stable outpatients to critically ill patients on full life support.

Responsibilities
  • General Clinical Practice
  • Know and demonstrate proficiency of all MRI and CT examinations
  • Maintain safety of the MRI and CT suite in conjunction with patients and multidisciplinary staff
  • Evaluate examination orders for pertinent clinical information and assess needs of patient and requirements for the exam in conjunction with the radiologist
  • Recognize emergent patient conditions
  • Coordinate critical patient transport with appropriate nursing personnel as applicable
  • Collaborate with Patient Services and anesthesia as needed
  • Ability to work independently

  • Demonstrate competency and proficiency in performing all MRI and CT procedures as identified in the MRI/CT Tech competency
  • Identify anatomical orientation, sequencing of images and verify accurate patient identification of images for accurate record retention and archiving
  • Accurately assess, select, prepare and administer contrast materials to patients in accordance with best clinical practices
  • Demonstrate competency and efficiency in safety in the MRI and CT suite
  • Ability to assess patient condition; preserve patient safety through proper use of immobilization devices
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and facility related information
  • Care of Environment and Equipment
  • Store supplies and equipment necessary for patient care in an organized and efficient manner
  • Demonstrate correct and safe techniques in the use of equipment
  • Maintain a clean, neat and safe environment for patients and staff according to facility Policies
  • Information Processing
  • Use computer system in documenting, correctly and accurately, patient information
  • Proficient in computer terminology and applications
  • Perform all necessary computer operations to include PACS system and verify accurate charge capture for procedures performed
  • Accurately transcribe physician orders and facilitate correcting mistakes or unclear orders with appropriate people
  • Quality Improvement and Safety
  • Report all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors, or other facility employees
  • Assist in identifying appropriate indicators for the department’s Quality Improvement programs
  • Discuss difficult cases with radiologist to reduce the number of patient call backs
  • Initiate occurrence reports when problems are identified
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • ARRT required
  • MRI and or CT certification preferred
  • State registration if required by respective state
  • BLS Certified
  • 2‑3 years MRI experience
  • Possess a level of clinical expertise and competency in cross‑sectional anatomy
  • Venipuncture skills required
  • Ability to handle critical care situations which can create a high level of stress
  • Must be willing to cross‑train into X‑ray
