Temporary Sewing Technicians (Supporting NASA at Johnson Space Center)

Location:

Webster, TX (onsite at customer facility)

• Sew materials by hand and/or sewing machine to join, gather, reinforce, or decorate materials or fabricated articles.
• Cut materials according to specifications, or remove excess material or thread from finished product using blade, scissors, or electric knife.
• Examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to standards.
• Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, thread breaks, or machine malfunction. Mount attachments such as needles, and adjust machine guides, place spools of thread or other materials on spindles, insert bobbin, and thread through guides.
• Position and mark patterns on materials to prepare for sewing. Position materials through feed rollers and guides, or maneuver under sewing machine presser foot and needle during operation. Remove finished materials from sewing machine. Replace needle and clean/oil sewing machines to maintain equipment.
• Record amount of materials processed in production logs.
• Ensure quality and accuracy of product fabrication according to instructions and drawings. Use specialized automatic or semi‑automatic sewing equipment and other equipment as required.

• Proficient in the use and operation of industrial sewing machines:
  Straight Stitch (single & double needle), Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, and 3‑Thread Rolled Hem Serger.
• Proficient reading soft‑goods fabrication and assembly drawings.
• Proficient in fabrication of soft‑goods patterns.
• Ability to sew materials by hand and/or sewing machine to very tight tolerances.
• Ability to cut materials to very tight tolerances using blade, scissors, or electric knife.
• Monitor machine operation for issues such as defective stitching, thread breaks, or malfunction.
• Capacity to work in a team environment.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred

Education / Experience:

Experience sewing on space flight programs and products.

Basic Compensation: $59,700K – $89,600K (Webster, Texas only). The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the candidate’s skills, experience, and internal parity.

Additional Compensation:
Bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation such as sign‑on bonus, relocation benefits, short‑term and long‑term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance may be offered per internal policy.
