Six-Month Sewing Technician Positions (Supporting NASA at Johnson Space Center)
Job OverviewK is seeking temporary (six‑month) to possible full‑time Space Suit Sewing Technicians to support our Space Suit Design Team for K ’s Science and Space division. These positions are for the Second Shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM). The technicians will be responsible for fabrication, assembly and repair of soft‑goods components and assemblies using industrial sewing machines (Straight Stitch, Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, 3‑Thread Rolled Hem Serger).
Candidates must complete safety training and be proficient in reading soft‑goods fabrication and assembly drawings and patterns.
- Sew materials by hand and/or sewing machine to join, gather, reinforce or decorate materials or fabricated articles.
- Cut materials according to specifications or remove excess material or thread from finished product using blade, scissors or electric knife.
- Examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to standards.
- Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, thread breaks or machine malfunction; adjust machine guides and inserts as needed.
- Position and mark patterns on materials for sewing; manage machine feeds and presser foot during operation; clean and oil machines to maintain equipment.
- Record quantity of materials processed in production logs.
- Ensure quality and accuracy of product fabrication according to instructions and/or drawings.
- Proficient in the use and operation of industrial sewing machines:
Straight Stitch, Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, 3‑Thread Rolled Hem Serger. - Proficient in reading soft‑goods fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Proficient in fabricating soft‑goods patterns.
- Ability to sew and cut materials to tight tolerances.
- Monitor machine operation and detect problems.
- Capacity to work in a team environment.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
- 5+ years of related experience.
- Experience sewing on space flight programs and products.
Webster, TX (onsite at customer facility)
CompensationBase salary range: $59,700 – $89,600 (Webster, TX). Additional compensation may include bonuses, commissions, sign‑on bonus, relocation benefits or incentives per internal policy.
