Six-Month Sewing Technician Positions (Supporting NASA at Johnson Space Center)

K is seeking temporary six‑month to possible full‑time Space Suit Sewing Technicians to support our SPACE SUIT DESIGN TEAM for K ’s Science and Space division. These positions will be for Second Shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM).
The Space Suit Sewing Technicians will be responsible for fabrication, assembly and repair of soft‑goods components and assemblies. Proficient in the use and operation of industrial sewing machines:
Straight Stitch (single and double needle), Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole and 3‑Thread Rolled Hem Serger. Candidates will complete corporate and contract safety training, familiarization with Total Safety Task Instruction (TSTI) and training on operating procedures and desk instructions. Perform duties in accordance with established flight and training process procedures and work‑authorizing documents. Proficient in reading soft‑goods fabrication and assembly drawings and in fabrication of soft‑goods patterns.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Responsibilities- Sew materials by hand and/or sewing machine, to join, gather, reinforce, or decorate materials or fabricated articles.
- Cut materials according to specifications, or cut excess material or thread from finished product using blade, scissors or electric knife.
- Examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to standards.
- Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunction. Mount attachments, such as needles, and adjust machine guides according to specifications. Place spools of thread, cord or other materials on spindles, insert bobbin, and thread ends through machine guides and components.
- Position and mark patterns on materials to prepare for sewing. Position materials through feed rollers and guides, or maneuver under sewing machine presser foot and needle during operation. Remove finished materials from sewing machine. Replace needle and clean/oil sewing machines to maintain equipment.
- Record amount of materials processed in production logs.
- Ensure quality and accuracy of product fabrication according to the fabrication instructions and/or drawing. Use specialized automatic or semi‑automatic sewing equipment and other equipment as required to fabricate products.
High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Proficient in the use and operation of the following industrial sewing machines:

- Ability to cut materials according to specifications, or cut excess material or thread from finished product using blade, scissors or electric knife to very tight tolerances.
- Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunction.
- Capacity to work in a team environment.
Experience sewing on space flight programs and products.
Work LocationWebster, TX – onsite at customer facility.

Basic Compensation$59,700K - $89,600K – range for Webster, Texas only. The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the candidate’s working location, knowledge, skills, abilities and experience, and in consideration of internal parity.
