Position: PRN Float Senior Oncology Clinic and Infusion Registered (RN) - Webster Market

Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Float Oncology Clinic and Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Webster Market. This position is Monday-Friday, no weekends or holidays, and no call.

Level I, II or Senior based on relevant candidate experience.

Floating from the home site as needed, to cover the Webster Market for infusion and clinic. This includes Webster, Houston Southeast and Pearland.

Job Function

Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

Essential duties include:

  • Oncology Clinic RN
    • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
    • Assess health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional material.
    • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
    • Facilitate clinical operations and patient care.
    • Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart.
    • Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre‑testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals and future appointments for patients.
    • Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient chart.
    • Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care.
    • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
    • Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
  • Infusion Clinic RN
    • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional material.
    • Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
    • Administer all medications/blood products using correct medication, dosage, route, time, and technique.
    • Assure pre‑authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable.
    • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management.
    • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports and maintain central line catheter devices.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
    • Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
Qualifications

Education/Training

Level I
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Entry level – 0–3 years nursing experience, oncology experience strongly preferred.
Level II
  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience; oncology experience strongly preferred.
Level Senior
  • Minimum five (5) years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology strongly preferred.
  • Oncology certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
