Overview
At Sprouts Farmers Market, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for directing all business processes at their assigned store and delivering positive results. The Assistant Store Manager must be competent in all departments, both perishable and non-perishable, to ensure the team executes programs and processes to drive sales and efficiency. They inspire and motivate a team committed to providing superior customer service in a fast-paced and friendly environment in compliance with company safety, labeling, health, and weights and measures standards.
They oversee the store in the Store Manager’s absence and drive store sales, team member engagement, and customer advocacy through strong leadership.
- Positively shape the culture in the store by modeling leadership behaviors aligned to Sprouts values.
- Develop the store leadership team to deliver an exceptional customer experience by motivating and engaging team members.
- Lead a team of approximately ten people (all Department Managers and Receivers) with courtesy, respect, integrity, and care.
- Motivate and develop the management team by embracing, leading, advocating, and modeling Sprouts leadership behaviors.
- Celebrate store successes and identify opportunities for perpetual improvement.
- Continuously evolve customer satisfaction by teaching team members to exceed customer expectations.
- Demonstrate advanced product knowledge when assisting customers and training team members.
- Communicate expectations, policy changes, new initiatives, and product knowledge.
- Provide and receive constructive feedback for effective communication within store teams and support partners.
- Address emergencies, crises, equipment failures, and issues with urgency.
- P&L ownership — manage inventory, labor, and expenses to meet targets as a percentage of sales.
- Maintain compliance with safety and food safety requirements, as measured through audits.
- Identify safety, security, and loss prevention concerns and address with the appropriate team.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations related to labor, health, safety, and sanitation.
- Drive sales growth and store experience with Educate and Enrich standards, including store conditions, ad directives, item knowledge, and department schematics.
- Manage top item in stock conditions through fresh item management, perpetual inventory, and ordering.
- Oversee inventory management including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating merchandise with attention to dates and sanitation.
- Oversee invoicing from distribution centers and vendors and report discrepancies as needed.
- Lead Receivers and backroom organization, cleanliness, and safety.
- Help build and maintain displays compliant with company programs and standards.
- Verify products are fresh, labeled, and priced accurately; oversee price changes and sale prices.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent; degree in business management, marketing, retailing, communications, or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years of retail experience; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Proven success leading non-perishable and perishable department operations with integrity, including P&L, safety, staffing, training, and performance management.
- Professional communication skills, both written and verbal; detail-oriented and solution-focused.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant store software.
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Food Safety certification required.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting; push/pull requirements; stand for long periods; and other physical demands as described.
- Wear PPE as required; comfortable with standard store equipment and tools.
