What the Job Is Really LikeThis is a key preconstruction role in a fast-paced design-build environment. You'll work closely with designers, Project Managers, vendors, suppliers, and trade partners to develop accurate budgets, prepare detailed proposals, coordinate pricing, and support projects from the initial ballpark estimate through handoff to the construction team. The work combines analytical thinking, organization, communication, and continuous process improvement.
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days- Learn the company estimating process, systems, historical pricing, and preferred vendor relationships.
- Independently complete ballpark budgets and formal proposals with minimal oversight.
- Develop confidence pricing change orders and coordinating subcontractor quotes.
- Build strong working relationships with designers, Project Managers, vendors, and trade partners.
- Become a trusted resource who helps ensure projects move smoothly from design into construction.
- Prepare conceptual budgets and detailed construction estimates.
- Develop formal proposals, scopes of work, allowances, and options.
- Prepare, price, and track project change orders.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical costs, pricing templates, and proposal standards.
- Coordinate vendor and subcontractor pricing and support purchasing activities.
- Continuously improve estimating processes, templates, and documentation.
- 3+ years of residential remodeling, construction estimating, or similar experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods and materials.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Job Tread or similar construction management software.
