QUALIFICATIONSAs per State and County Regulations. Those presently employed or on the Aide Substitute List will be given preference. Applicant must possess a valid First Aid card and be certified in CPR. Applicants not already employed must take and pass the State Aide's Competency Test.
REQUIREMENTSIf not already certified, applicant must be willing and able to obtain Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher credential.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist teacher(s) in implementing instructional program, working directly with children in small groups or one-to-one basis, establishing effective rapport with students assigned to PRE‑K or K classroom, motivating students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good educational foundation in accordance with each pupil's ability.
- Assist teacher in instructional activities as directed.
- Share in the responsibilities of protecting students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain positive work habits.
- Perform duties efficiently and productively.
- Perform specialized health care procedures pursuant to WV Code 18‑5‑22 (e.g., suctioning of tracheotomy, Naso‑gastric tube feedings or gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization, etc.).
- Perform any and all other related duties assigned by the classroom teacher, building principal or appropriate county supervisor.
- Assist teacher as needed with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
- Maintain environment that is safe for students and conducive to learning.
- Assist with supervision and instruction of children; copying, cutting, coloring, etc., to construct materials and bulletin boards.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce skills that have been taught by the teacher.
- Attend in‑services and workshops, as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality and unquestionable integrity.
- Assist the teacher in supervision of children in the classroom and to various locations in the school, including instructional areas, the cafeteria, and the bus.
- Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, playground duty and other duties assigned by the building supervisor or principal.
- Ability to work with children and adults.
- Ability to demonstrate patience while working with children.
- Ability to learn new skills; flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
- Ability to work well with others, follow written and oral directions and complete assignments given.
- Ability to work with individuals and groups of students to support academics and behavior management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and staff members.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions whether furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with this position.
- Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision sufficient to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
- ECCAT/Aide must ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that children are involved in safe and appropriate activities.
