Instructional Assistant

Job Description Role Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Instructional Assistant to support our classroom teachers in delivering high-quality education to students. The ideal candidate will work with students one‑on‑one, facilitate small group instruction, assist in the development and implementation of lesson plans, and support student supervision. This role ensures every student receives individualized attention and contributes to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

What

you’ll do
  • Provide focused lessons to individuals or small groups of students identified through the MTSS process.
  • Tutor individuals and small groups in various subject areas.
  • Utilize data to plan instruction and prepare for facilitating lessons with students.
  • Track data and goals, and communicate progress to students and supervisors.
  • Communicate student growth or areas of need to teacher, supervisor, and MTSS team, in writing and verbally.
  • Assist in maintaining student records and files.
  • Support 1:1 or small group testing administration throughout the school year.
  • Operate equipment such as copy machines, computers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Attend and participate in professional development.
  • Work closely with teacher and other instructional staff to address student needs and contribute to ongoing educational improvements.
  • Support communication with parents by providing updates on student progress or challenges when needed.
  • Provide occasional teacher coverage.
  • Supervise students in all indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Supervise students during breakfast, lunch, and snack time.
  • Execute the Bright Star culture plan and training to support a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for students.
  • Encourage children to interact positively with other children and people around them.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the teacher and classroom team to ensure the individual needs of all children are met.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
What you’ll bringMinimum
  • At least 48 college semester units.
  • Organized, creative, independent, and self‑motivated; enthusiastic, dependable, detail‑oriented, and flexible in scheduling and prioritization; driven by excellence.
  • Good communication skills: oral and written, accurate grammar and business correspondence.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships; demonstrated ability to communicate in situations requiring tact and poise; skilled in confidentiality and discretion.
  • Professional appearance; neat, business casual.
  • Ability to adjust tasks and focus with composure in accordance with changing deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask.
Desired (but not required) in order of importance
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Highly preferred).
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Korean (desired).
