Position: #67887 Assistant Cheer Coach WHS

Supervisor: Principal and/or Principal'sDesignee

Salary: Hancock County Schools coaching salary scale per HCBOE Policy.

Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/athletic director/principal's designee and in accordance with WV State Board Policy 5310, and HCBOE Policy.

Job Summary

The person employed for this position must be able to teach the fundamentals of the sport and instill good sportsmanship behaviors in the participants. Additionally, adherence to WVSSAC rules and regulations as well as school and district policies is required.

Performance Responsibilities Professional and Interpersonal Relations

Communicateswitheducationalpersonnel, parents, students, and others. Items that may be used to reflect professional and interpersonal relations:

  • Cooperateswithbuildingprincipal.
  • Cooperateswithathleticdirector.
  • Developsrapportwithcoachingstaffwithintheschool.
  • Adherestothedirectivesoftheheadcoach.
  • Developspositiverelationshipwithparticipants,student body,faculty,parent sand community, game officials, news media, and opponents.
  • Employsappropriateconductduringgamesandpractices.
  • Attendsleague,conferenceandWVSSACmeetings.
  • Participateinactivitiesthatfosterprofessionalgrowthanddevelopment.
  • Motivatesstaffandplayerstowarddesiredgoals.
  • Commandsrespectbyexampleinappearance,manners,behavior and language. Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Read,interpret, applyand explainrules,regulations,policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people, establish and maintain a working relationship with students, coaches and other college administrators.

Organizeandimplementpracticeandgameplansincoordinationwithcoachingstaff.

Coaching and Related Areas

Organizesstrategiesforteachingsportsskillsandsports management systems.

  • Designsqualityorganizationofpracticesessions.
  • Designspre-seasonplanning.
  • Supervisesmanagersandothersupportpersonnel.
  • Followspurchasingprocedures.
  • Followsleague,conference,andWVSSACpolicies.
  • Devotestimeandenergytocoachingduties.
  • Followsendofseasonprocedures.
  • Other duties/responsibilitiesassignedbytheprincipal/athleticdirector/principal's designee.
  • Teachgoodsportsmanshipandself-control.
  • Checkeligibilityofparticipants,includinginsurancecoverageandparent consent.
  • Providestudentsaproperrolemodel,emotional support,patience,afriendly attitude and general guidance.
  • Conductlearningexperiences,withsmallgroupsofstudent athletes.
  • Recommendthepurchaseofequipment,suppliesanduniformsasappropriatefor the health, safety and welfare of student athletes.
  • Performrelateddutiesasassigned.
Qualifications

Valid West Virginiateachingcertificatelicensing ;or WVDEsubstitute permit; or high school diploma or GED.

Must hold a valid CPR/AED certification.

CoachesthatarenotprofessionalteachersarerequiredtocompletetheWVSSACTrainingand Certification Program.
