The First2 Network knows that far too many of these students either do not successfully persist in STEM pathways through to graduation or drop out of college entirely. We believe that the first two years of college are a critical moment for success in STEM pathways and that by supporting first-generation students to do well and promoting the development of institutional advancement and policy change to better serve these students we will see a real change in persistence and graduation rates

The members will be conducting an outreach campaign to help incoming students. The members will create a proposed campaign, working with Fairmont State's Communications, and Creative Services, and then execute the campaign. The members will be assigned projects they are "point" on from among the First Generation planned programs and initiatives and will serve as the project manager for their point project.

The members will be assisting with the coordination of the First Flight 2027 program, including gathering and summarizing 2026 feedback, 2027 program design, communications, staff training. Finally, the members will be assisting with the continued operation of various support and community initiatives among first generation STEM students. Specifically, the members will track mentor: mentee interactions and college feedback on the effectiveness of the program.

The mentors will also serve as project managers for STEM council club meetings and the Sci Tech Fall social.
