Responsibilities- The review and supervision of all technical engineering aspects and processing of surface mining and underground mining applications to ensure that facilities are designed and operated in accordance with applicable state and federal surface mining guidelines, as well as sound engineering practices.
- Review plans and designs for the construction of roads, dams and sediment structures and review engineering plans and applications to assess environmental impact of proposed mining.
- Compose reports detailing recommendations, conclusions and findings.
- Conduct annual inspections of impoundments as required by the Dam Control Act.
- Prepare a variety of reports and correspondence and update computer data files on a regular basis.
- Conduct field inspections which may require walking over rugged terrain and in inclement weather.
- Attend meetings and hearings to observe or attest to the findings of environmental impact.
- Attend state and national meetings and seminars to gain and share engineering knowledge.
- May review lower level engineering work and may perform in a supervisory or lead worker role.
- Perform other duties as required.
Training: Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
AND
Experience: Seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in engineering, in which three (3) years must be as a licensed Professional Engineer.
Note: The experience must have been acquired after the bachelor’s degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.
