Job DescriptionThis role focuses on the onsite installation, startup, and commissioning of a new automated production cell at a customer facility in Weirton, West Virginia. The Controls Engineer will work hands‑on with PLCs, robotics, SCADA systems, and PackML standards to bring advanced automation equipment into full production. The position involves close collaboration with engineering teams and customer stakeholders to ensure the system meets performance, quality, and production requirements.
Responsibilities- Support the installation, startup, and commissioning of a new automated manufacturing cell at the customer site in Weirton, WV.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs and associated HMI interfaces to support system bring‑up and production.
- Integrate and support FANUC robotic systems during setup, testing, and production ramp‑up.
- Configure and work with SCADA platforms, with a preference for Ignition, to provide system visibility, monitoring, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Apply and support PackML standards for machine state management, coordination, and integration across the automated cell.
- Collaborate closely with the engineering team, project engineers, project managers, and customer stakeholders onsite to align on requirements, progress, and system performance.
- Diagnose and resolve control system issues in real time during commissioning and early production phases.
- Ensure system performance meets defined customer specifications, safety expectations, and production throughput requirements.
- Assist with system validation, including testing, debugging, and final adjustments prior to handoff.
- Support the final handoff of the automated system to the customer, including documentation, knowledge transfer, and post‑startup support as needed.
- Hands‑on experience with Siemens PLC programming, modification, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency working with Siemens‑based HMI systems for operator interface and diagnostics.
- Practical experience integrating and supporting FANUC robotic systems in an automated manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with SCADA platforms, with strong preference for Ignition.
- Ability to apply and support PackML standards for machine state and mode management.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills for control systems, robotics, and automation equipment.
- Ability to work onsite in an industrial production environment and support real‑time commissioning activities.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with engineering teams and customer stakeholders.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with automated manufacturing cells or assembly lines.
- Background in robotics integration and support within production environments.
- Familiarity with modern automation technologies and industrial control architectures.
- Ability to document changes, issues, and resolutions during installation and commissioning.
- Comfort working in a project‑based environment with evolving priorities and timelines.
- Interest in gaining deeper hands‑on experience with cutting‑edge automation and control technologies.
This position is fully onsite at a customer facility in West Virginia and follows a Monday through Friday first‑shift schedule, typically 40–50 hours per week depending on project needs. The role is based in an industrial manufacturing environment around automated production equipment, robotics, and control systems. You will work in tandem with a project engineer and other team members supporting the installation and commissioning of the new automated cell, using Siemens PLCs, FANUC robots, SCADA systems such as Ignition, and PackML‑based control architectures.
The environment is fast‑paced and hands‑on, with a strong focus on safety, collaboration, and delivering a successful system startup and handoff.
This is a Contract position based out of Weirton, WV.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 – $45.00/hr.
