Description:

Unit has 48 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights.
Required to titrate drips, with the exception of cardiac drip titration.
Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness.
Charge nurse on day shift will take a patient assignment, while night charge nurse may not.
Patient care techs are available with a ratio of 1:10-12 on average.
Job duties include vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, bathing, feeding, toileting, turning, and positioning.
Respiratory therapy administers treatments and manages equipment, while nurses typically monitor.
Monitor tech assists with telemetry, and nurses are not expected to read strips.
Self-scheduling is not available; scheduling is managed by leadership.
Every other weekend is required.
Holidays are rotated among staff.
Floating to other medical surgical units may occur based on staffing needs.
Scrub color is navy blue for nurses and ceil blue for patient care techs.
There is a one-day unit-specific orientation with a preceptor.
