Performs proper operational procedures for sterilization of instrumentation and reuseable med/surg supplies. Fills OR case carts and maintains OR supply inventory. Cleans, disinfects and maintains reuseable patient care equipment for the nursing unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
** :**

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
    OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within 12 months of hire.

    EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) months of sterilization equipment and procedures experience

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain accurate operation of sterilization equipment.

  • Maintain department in clean and sterile condition.

  • Check inventory and discard expired items that cannot be re-sterilized.

  • Properly sterilize and package all reusable items.

  • Collects soiled instrumentation and equipment to be reprocessed.

  • Cleaning, sterilization and distribution of instruments and hard goods used in the operating room and other user areas of the hospital.

  • Cleaning and disinfections of patient equipment used in hospital.

  • Take telephone orders from user department for supply replenishment and record, fill and distribute orders to proper department.

  • Fills case cart requisitions for surgery department.

  • Order specialty equipment from vendors.

  • Ability to charge inventory to appropriate departments.

  • Knowledge of MS4 ordering system.

  • Count inventory.

  • Must be capable oflifting upto 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighing in excess of 200 pounds.

  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have strong background knowledge of surgical and procedural environments and governing practice standards including the need for excellent personal hygiene to reduce the risk of work product contamination.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate verbal and written proficiencies to utilize writtenhigh leveldisinfection/sterilization guidelines and manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU’s).

  • Must demonstrate ability to independently plan, organize, and set priorities in routine and/or emergency situations.
