Role DescriptionStaff Manufacturing Test Engineer: develop and deploy manufacturing test equipment, software, and data systems to support the production of our energy storage technology. Collaborate with Product Development, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations to define and architect a scalable, maintainable test solution for high-volume manufacturing of a novel energy storage system.
The ideal candidate combines software development, instrumentation integration, hardware troubleshooting, and cross‑functional leadership on the factory floor. Relocation assistance is available.
What you’ll do- Develop and maintain manufacturing test software for cell, module, and pack-level product testing.
- Design hardware and software architectures supporting scalability, maintainability, and long‑term operational support, including HMI and PLC automation, MES, and database systems.
- Develop and deploy manufacturing test equipment supporting new product introductions and process development initiatives.
- Create test fixtures, hardware interfaces, and instrumentation architectures supporting production and equipment safety requirements.
- Lead equipment validation activities and production readiness reviews.
- Collaborate with Product Development, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, MES, and Operations teams to define and implement manufacturing test requirements.
- Define test readiness requirements and plan & execute activities for new products, process changes, and factory expansion efforts.
- Own the Manufacturing Test decision-making in PFMEA, control plans, risk assessments, and design for manufacturability and test.
- Develop technical documentation and training, including test procedures, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and equipment specifications for sustaining operations.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for manufacturing test equipment, software, and process issues during development, commissioning, and production ramp activities.
- Serve as a technical resource for manufacturing and operations teams during equipment deployment and production launch to ensure test systems meet quality and performance requirements.
- 5+ years of experience developing automated test systems in manufacturing, product development, or industrial environments.
- Demonstrated ownership of complete test systems from concept through deployment.
- Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience integrating manufacturing test systems with MES, databases, or enterprise software systems.
- Experience developing and scaling manufacturing test systems from prototype, pilot, or low-volume production environments into high-volume manufacturing.
- Experience supporting new factory launches, production ramp activities, or capacity expansion initiatives.
- Experience establishing test architectures, software frameworks, processes, and standards that enable long-term growth and operational scalability.
- Experience with industrial and embedded communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, Ethernet-based protocols, UART, SPI, I2C, Protobuf, or similar technologies.
This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV — a 550,000-square-foot facility that serves as our hub for high-volume battery production. Relocation assistance is available.
