American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown/IMC position requiring at least 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience and cardiac monitoring proficiency, working 12-hour night shifts.

Requirements
  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience required
  • Comfort with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drip titration required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
  • Any licensing hits must be disclosed prior to consideration
Responsibilities
  • Acute care stepdown/IMC unit with 30 beds
  • Patient population includes cardiac patients, post-cath lab, post-pneumonia, seizures, ETOH/CIWA protocols, and pacemaker patients
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Heparin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Angiomax
  • Cerner EMR used in this position
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), with handoff from 6:45–7:15
  • Every other weekend required
  • May be included in holiday rotation
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Travelers are first to float and may be floated to any inpatient unit
  • Monitor techs available 24/7; RNs are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
  • RT is assigned to the unit 24/7 and manages respiratory equipment (BiPAP, Airvo, trachs); RNs are expected to troubleshoot equipment appropriately
  • Charge nurse present on every shift; night shift charge carries a lighter patient assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available on unit
  • Hospitalist available with nocturnist coverage for the entire hospital at night
  • 13-week contract, night shift
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Orientation consists of 2 days of general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor
  • Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before applying; cumulative travel experience at WVU facilities counts toward a 1-year maximum, after which a 2-year break is required
  • Candidates must be able to provide 7 years of work history (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days, including hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and teaching facility status for each position
  • Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
  • A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
  • All candidates interview directly with a unit manager
