Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 24 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 12 months of Medical Surgical Unit experience with 12 months worked in the last 3 years.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a West Virginia license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role may require floating to additional units and locations

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >50 miles from facility to be submitted.

• COVID vaccination required after submission. Religious and medical declinations accepted.

• 24 months gap required between for Staff at Program:
Medical Solutions Plus Program - WVU Medicine and no current placement allowed at Program:
Medical Solutions Plus Program - WVU Medicine.

Additional Details:

Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.

If candidate worked a perm facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from perm facility.

Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers.

References:
At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you’re applying to.

Required Skills/

Experience:

- Must have skills: transfuse blood, wound vac changes, PCA pumps.

Unit Details:

- Nurse:patient ratios: daylight 1:5 (max
6); night turn 1:6 (max
7).

- Common cases include Ortho post-op knee replacement, hip replacement, hip fractures, and shoulder replacement; GU cases including TURBT, TURP, and bladder biopsy;
General cases including hemicolectomy, cholecystectomy, Appy, and hernia repair; and Cath Lab post peripheral interventions and dialysis cath insertions.

- Heparin drips per protocol.

- Day shift charge nurse does not take an assignment; night shift charge nurse can take a small assignment of 2-3 patients.

- Respiratory therapy administers breathing treatments and helps manage CPAP and BiPap; nursing troubleshoots only. No vents on this unit. Nursing applies high flow as patient condition warrants.

- No monitor techs on this unit. Nursing on Level 7 is not required to read their own strips; strips are interpreted by the monitor tech on Level 5 (IMC).

Shift & Scheduling:

- Every other weekend.

- May be asked to go into the holiday rotation. Holidays are based on a rotating schedule:
Group 1 New Year’s Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve;
Group 2 Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Christmas. Alternate every other year from Group 1 to Group 2.

- No on-call. Standby is on EA. Low census EA is given 4 hours at a time: dayshift EA given at 0500 for the daylight shift, call in at 0900 to see if needed; if needed, come in by 1100; if not needed, call back in at 1300; if needed, come in by 1500; if not needed, off for the rest of the shift.

Night shift EA given at 1700, call in at 2100; if needed, come in by 2300; if not needed, off for the rest of the night.

Floating Requirements:

- Floating is on a rotating basis if needed on another unit. Last float to another unit is tracked by the charge nurse and rotated to the next staff member. Can be voluntary also. Floating is not considered if covering the IRF (rehab unit). Staff is shared between both units as needed. May be floated to any other MS, MS-Tele, or IMC unit to care for lower acuity patients.

14 days maximum time off

1 Charge/Lead reference required from within the last 2 years

Driver’s license required for submission
