American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown/IMC unit position requiring 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience and comfort with cardiac drips and monitoring.
Details- Work in the IMC-Stepdown unit of an acute care hospital
- 30-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-6 depending on acuity
- Patient population includes cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizure, and ETOH/CIWA protocol patients, as well as pacemaker patients
- Uses Cerner EMR
- 12-hour day shifts, 7am-7pm, with weekends as scheduled (every other weekend)
- May be required to work holiday rotation
- No call or standby requirements
- Travelers may float to any inpatient unit and are prioritized first for floating
- Charge nurse present on each shift, day shift charge typically does not take a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/PCTs support the unit with ADLs, vitals, and other patient care duties
- Respiratory therapy assigned to unit 24/7 to administer treatments and manage equipment (BiPAP, Air Vo, trachs)
- Dedicated tele/monitor tech available 24/7
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience required
- Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and titrating cardiac drips (e.g., cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, angiomax)
- Must be able to troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips, including printing strips, performing measurements, and identifying rhythms
- Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Any licensing disciplinary history must be disclosed at time of consideration
- Provide direct patient care including administration of titratable cardiac drips and cardiac monitoring
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment as appropriate in coordination with dedicated respiratory therapy staff
- Read, interpret, print, and measure telemetry strips and identify rhythms
- Collaborate with in-house primary attending physicians and nocturnist coverage available overnight
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Orientation includes 2 days of general orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify as a traveler
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Previous WVU Medicine travelers must complete a 2-year break before reapplying, and cumulative work at WVU facilities is limited to one year before requiring a 2-year break
