DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown/IMC unit requiring 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience and comfort with cardiac drips and monitoring.
Details- Acute care Stepdown/IMC unit with 30 beds
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4-6 depending on acuity
- Patient population includes cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizures, ETOH/CIWA protocol patients, and pacemaker patients
- Cerner EMR used for charting
- RNs required to titrate drips including cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a-7p, with every other weekend required
- May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
- No call or standby requirement
- Travelers may float to any inpatient unit and are first in line to float
- Charge nurse present each shift; day shift charge typically does not take a patient assignment while night shift charge takes a lighter assignment
- Nurse aides/PCTs support the unit with ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, call lights, and blood sugars
- RT staff assigned to unit 24/7 to administer breathing treatments and manage BiPAP, AIRVO, and trach equipment; RNs expected to troubleshoot as needed
- Monitor tech available 24/7; RNs expected to read and interpret telemetry, print strips, and identify rhythms
- Primary attending on-call at night with nocturnist available hospital-wide overnight
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience required
- Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips
- Comfortable performing telemetry strip interpretation and measurements
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Provide direct patient care including monitoring, drip titration, and rhythm interpretation for stepdown-level patients
- 2-day general orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break; cumulative experience applies
- EKG competency testing may be required depending on facility
