Job DescriptionThe substitute bus operator is responsible for operating school buses and other school transportation vehicles as provided by the West Virginia Board of Education. Personnel employed to operate school buses and other school transportation vehicles as provided by the State Board of Education. Specific duties and responsibilities are derived from West Virginia Code 18A-4-8 and 18-5-13(6,7,8) and West Virginia School Transportation Regulations, as well as Federal Laws mandating Commercial Driver License and Mandatory Drug Testing.
Qualifications- Holds a high school diploma or GED.
- Holds a Commercial Driver's License, Class B, Passenger and Airbrake.
- Passes the required physical examination.
- Has three years of experience as a licensed driver.
- Passes the Department of Motor Vehicles Driving Record Check.
- Passes the Drug/Alcohol Screening.
- Completes 40 hours of required classroom training and 20 hours of behind the wheel training.
- Holds First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Obtains a West Virginia School Bus Operator's Certificate through classes offered at the BOE.
Applicants who have unsatisfactory evaluations, have been dismissed or had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district will not be considered eligible for consideration.
