Job SummaryThe Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a school bus in transporting students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and other designated locations. This position ensures the safety, comfort, and well-being of all passengers while maintaining compliance with state, federal, and district policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operate a school bus safely over designated routes in accordance with time schedules.
- Pick up and discharge students at designated stops and schools.
- Ensure student safety during loading, unloading, and while in transit.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, reporting any mechanical issues.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderly condition of the bus interior and exterior.
- Enforce bus safety rules and district policies in a fair and consistent manner.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff as needed.
- Complete required reports, logs, and documentation in a timely manner.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations, including evacuations and first aid.
- Participate in required training sessions, safety meetings, and performance evaluations.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus and Passenger endorsements.
- Satisfactory driving record and ability to meet state/federal requirements.
- Ability to establish positive rapport with students and staff.
- Knowledge of traffic and highway safety regulations.
- Physical ability to perform job duties, including assisting students if necessary.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Moderate physical effort required (lifting, bending, assisting students).
- Early morning and afternoon split-shift work schedule.
