TITLE:

Part-time Van Driver (as needed)

LOCATION:

Countywide EMPLOYMENT TERM:
Estimated, part-time/hourly for the Hilltopper Pathways program with anticipated need during the program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 7:30. Program anticipated to run September 15 to December 10, 2026, and January 12 to April 29, 2027, for . BID PERIOD:
August 27 to September 2, 2026, 4 pm. If necessary, interviews will be arranged after bid period closes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must have Passenger Van Certification or obtain/renew it before driving (it requires yearly renewal). Must submit official DMV lifetime driving record. Preferred professional employee with Marshall County Schools. Time cannot conflict with regularly contracted duties scheduled duties.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Safely operate a Board-owned passenger van, as needed, to transport up to nine middle school students participating in the assigned extracurricular program.
  • Transport students to and from approved program activities, schools, homes, designated stops, or other authorized locations according to assigned schedules and routes.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of students while they are entering, occupying, and exiting the vehicle.
  • Ensure that all passengers use available seat belts and follow applicable safety rules and student conduct expectations.
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking the vehicle for students, personal property, visible damage, safety concerns, and general vehicle readiness.
  • Immediately report vehicle defects, accidents, injuries, student conduct concerns, route problems, delays, or other unusual circumstances to the appropriate county administrator.
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws, Board policies, vehicle-use procedures, emergency protocols, and program requirements.
  • Maintain required trip, mileage, inspection, fuel, student transportation, and other program records as directed.
  • Protect the confidentiality of student and family information and communicate appropriately with students, parents/guardians, school personnel, and program staff.
  • Respond appropriately to vehicle emergencies, student illness or injury, severe weather, road hazards, or other unexpected situations, including assisting with emergency evacuation when necessary.
  • Maintain the vehicle's interior in a reasonably clean and orderly condition and report maintenance, cleaning, fueling, or repair needs.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality for assigned trips and notify the program supervisor promptly of any circumstance affecting transportation services.
  • Perform other related extracurricular transportation duties as assigned by appropriate county administrator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands and feet to operate vehicle controls; turn the head and upper body to observe traffic and passengers; speak, hear, and see; and maintain sustained attention and situational awareness. The employee must possess sufficient near, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to operate the vehicle safely and monitor students.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb vehicle steps, secure equipment, and move throughout parking lots, sidewalks, school grounds, and program locations. The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, or pull supplies or equipment generally weighing up to 25 pounds.

The employee must be able to respond promptly to emergencies and assist students in entering, exiting, or evacuating the vehicle when necessary. Any student-specific physical assistance requirements should be evaluated according to the actual assignment and available equipment or assistance.
